About the Canadian Council of Directors of Apprenticeship
The Canadian Council of Directors of Apprenticeship (CCDA) is a voluntary partnership between Canada’s federal, provincial and territorial governments. The CCDA supports the development of skilled trades in Canada and it manages the Interprovincial Standards Red Seal Program.
Purpose of the CCDA
- Forum for inter-jurisdictional collaboration to facilitate the development of a certified, highly skilled and mobile trades workforce in Canada.
- Means by which decisions made by members about their respective apprenticeship and trade certification programs are informed by the most current and accurate evidence-based statistical analysis and research.
Organization of the CCDA
The CCDA consists of 15 members:
- One official from each province and territory who is responsible for managing and directing apprenticeship programs within their jurisdiction.
- Two federal government representatives from the Department of Employment and Social Development Canada.
As an organization, the CCDA does not have vested regulatory powers regarding training and certification in the skilled trades. However, the individual CCDA directors of apprenticeship and their organizations may hold regulatory powers through specific provincial/territorial legislation.
Each member is accountable to the jurisdiction that they represent.
